Caracas, April 25 (RHC)-- The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Saturday through a message posted on its official profile on the social network Twitter that a new shipment with 80,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 has arrived in Venezuela, as part of the strategic alliance between both nations.

"Our countries continue to cooperate in the fight against COVID-19 and further strengthen the strategic alliance," the Russian Foreign Ministry highlighted in the Twitter post, also shared by the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.

For his part, the Venezuelan Minister of Health, Dr. Carlos Alvarado, indicated to a local press media that the batch arrived at the "Simon Bolivar" International Airport and will be incorporated into the immunization process in the nation, aimed at front-line health personnel and senior citizens.

"Thanks to the alliances that exist with Russia, China, Cuba and other countries, during the current year 2021 have arrived in Venezuela more than 120 tons of inputs for the attention of Covid-19. If we add those of last year, there are more than 600,000", he affirmed.

Alvarado highlighted that with the mentioned alliances, Venezuela has been able to face the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the Government of the United States and its allies in the West, mainly in the midst of the pandemic.

The Russian Ambassador to Venezuela, Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov, told a local television station that the regular shipment of Russian vaccines to Venezuela gives new lives and hope to the Venezuelan people, as it fosters the relationship between both governments.

"For us it is important that this vaccine comes regularly, it promotes the Venezuelan health system, gives new lives, new hopes and new signs of absolute solidarity between the Government of President Nicolas Maduro and President Vladimir Putin."
