New batch of Sputnik V vaccines against Covid-19 arrives in Venezuela

Caracas, September 21 (RHC)-- A new batch of the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19 arrived on Monday at the International Airport of Maiquetia, to immunize the population of Venezuela, informed the Russian ambassador in Caracas, Sergey Melik-Bagdasarov.

"SputnikV is already here! (...) In the early morning at Maiquetia International Airport arrived aboard Conviasa (a) new batch of the 2а dose of Sputnik V," the diplomat announced on his Twitter social network account.

The official account of the Sputnik V biological product stated that 200,000 doses of the second component of the vaccine to combat the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which causes the Covid-19 disease, arrived in Venezuela on Monday.

Melik-Bagdasarov affirmed that Sputnik V, developed by Russia's Gamaleya Institute, "remains one of the safest and most effective anti-covid vaccines in the world."  The Russian ambassador had announced in early September about the resumption of the shipment of doses of Sputnik V vaccine to the South American country.  Mélik-Bagdasárov said that another batch with more anticovid vaccines is expected this Tuesday.

On Monday, Venezuelan authorities reported that in the last 24 hours, 1,201 new community infections of Covid-19 were confirmed, for a total of 356,262 accumulated cases to date.  Likewise, 10 deaths due to the coronavirus were registered, for a total of 4,311 deaths to date.
