Organizers of Out with Bolsonaro campaign call on Brazilians to take to the streets

Brasilia, June 29 (RHC)-- The organizing committee of the "Out with Bolsonaro" campaign agreed to call for a national mobilization in Brazil next Saturday, July 3rd, with the purpose of demanding the impeachment of President Jair Bolsonaro, who is held responsible for poor management in dealing with COVID-19 -- among many other crimes.

According to the organization's coordinating committee, protests will also demand the acceleration of vaccinations, emergency aid of 600 reais (more than $121) for workers and their families, and an end to police violence.

The committee held an emergency meeting over the weekend, after federal deputy Luis Miranda and his brother, Luis Ricardo Miranda, a Health Ministry official, gave testimony before the Senate's Parliamentary Investigative Commission (CPI) that is probing into Bolsonaro's management of the pandemic.

Both presented a complaint before the CPI about irregularities in the bidding and purchase of the Covaxin vaccine.  Among other issues, they testified that the anti-COVID serum was paid at an overprice.

In addition, the legislator stated that last March, he personally alerted Bolsonaro of the irregularities and the existence of a corruption scheme, but the Brazilian president did not bring this information to the attention of the Police or other authorities.

The organizing committee of "Out with Bolsonaro" also agreed to strengthen the mobilization planned for Wednesday, June 30th, starting at 5 p.m. local time, in the vicinity of the National Congress.

This event will coincide with the delivery to the Chamber of Deputies of the "super request" for impeachment of the president, which gathers more than one hundred impeachment requests promoted by several organizations.

In the opinion of social leaders and leftist parliamentarians, these and other initiatives will increase popular pressure so that an impeachment trial of Bolsonaro takes place and he has to leave the Presidency.

So far, COVID-19 has caused a total of 18,420,598 infections and 513,474 deaths in Brazil. In the opinion of experts, a significant number of these infections and deaths could have been avoided if Bolsonaro had not underestimated the pandemic or denied science.

Among others, Out with Bolsonaro is organized by the Workers' Party, the Communist Party, the Socialism and Freedom Party, the Landless Workers' Movement and the fronts People Without Fear, Brasil Popular and the Black Coalition for Rights.
