Ecuadorian government declares road emergency in Esmeraldas

Quito, June 10 (RHC)-- The Government of Ecuador reported that a road emergency was declared in the provinces of Esmeraldas to address the emergency caused by heavy rains.

The document indicates that the sole purpose of this decision is to allocate economic resources for comprehensive solutions in the State Road Network (RVE), maintain road connectivity and rehabilitate the affected sections.

Also, authorities assure citizens that these resources will be handled with responsibility and, to this effect, the contracting processes will be carried out with transparency and in accordance with the law, said the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MTOP).

Finally, it is reported that since the beginning of the emergency, machinery and technical personnel have been deployed in the five cantons and 15 parishes affected by the rain.  This work has been coordinated between Ministries, Municipalities, Prefecture and the Government of Esmeraldas.

A total of 20 dangerous events have been registered in Esmeraldas after the heavy rains that flooded the province on June 3.  There are 16 floods, 1 landslide, 1 landslide, 1 landslide, 1 windstorm and 1 structural collapse reported in the affected areas of Atacames, Esmeraldas, Muisne, Quinindé, Rioverde and Eloy Alfaro.
