Colombia bids farewell to Senator Piedad Córdoba

Bogota, January 22 (RHC)-- In the Constitution Hall of the Colombian Congress, the funeral tribute to Senator Piedad Cordoba, who passed away last Saturday, started late.

This Monday, several acts will be carried out to remember and pay tribute to the Colombian politician, which will culminate this afternoon at the Bolivar Square.  The body of the renowned left-wing activist and politician arrived late to the room where the funeral chamber was set up to pay her respects.

According to the schedule, from 09H00 until 17H00, citizens who wish to say goodbye to Senator Piedad Cordoba will be able to enter the Congress.   "At the moment her body is in the Constitution Hall, access to the public will be opened," it was indicated from the Senate.

At the last minute it was indicated that the coffin would arrive around 11:30 a.m. local time.  President Gustavo Petro is expected to visit and then the public will be allowed to enter.

After the funeral rites in Quibdó, her body will be in the burial chamber on Monday at the Congress of the Republic and then she will be buried in the capital of Antioquia.
