Petition to Repeal U.S. Decree Against Venezuela Tops 9 Million Signatures

Caracas, April 08 (teleSUR-RHC) Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced on Tuesday that the campaign calling for U.S. President Barack Obama to repeal his executive order that arbitrarily declares Venezuela an extraordinary threat to its national security had reached over 9 million signatures.

The latest total brings the number of signatures very close to the goal of 10 million signatures. President Maduro intends to deliver the signatures to U.S. President Barack Obama this week at the Summit of the Americas in Panama.

“In the decisive moment, when we are threatened by the empire, the goal of 10 million willing signatories emerges, and I am sure that in the next few hours we are going to surpass the (goal of) 10 million men and women united in their defense of the homeland,” Maduro said during his weekly television program.

The Venezuelan head of state added that the campaign has generated “energy, spirit of unity, confidence, and optimism for the future ... every signature is an expression of the desire for peace and sovereignty.”

Obama's executive order has served to galvanize support both within Venezuela and throughout the world for the democratically-elected government of Venezuela. Venezuelans have responded to Maduro's call to reject Obama's sanctions with enthusiasm, producing what Maduro called a “revolution within the revolution” and giving the political process underway in Venezuela “a necessary renewed strength so that the revolution can overcome all the challenges that (it) is facing.”

Mr. Obama used this action to execute and justify his long-time thirst to destroy Venezuela and Latin America through wicked sanctions. As a show of friendship and solidarity with Venezuela and Latin America, the Hugo Chavez International Foundation for Peace, Friendship and Solidarity joins world leaders from over 138 countries, regional Blocs, NGOs and multilateral organizations worldwide to demand for President Obama to cease all hostile actions, including misrepresentation, sanctions and threats of war against Venezuela. We reject President Obama’s Executive Order against Venezuela as a dangerous threat to peace, stability and progress in Latin America, which should be reversed immediately and with no condition attached.
