Havana, September 30 (RHC)-- The maximum leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP), Timoleón Jiménez, says that he is optimistic about the ongoing peace talks between the Colombian government and rebel forces.

In an interview granted to teleSUR TV, Jiménez affirmed that the talks underway in Havana could reach a successful end in the next six months if there is a political determination to obtain a solution to crucial issues that are still pending.

Comandante Timoleón Jiménez referred to the recent accord signed by both sides regarding transitional justice as a step in the right direction and said that the objective of the talks is to generate an atmosphere that will allow for the resolution of problems without the use of weapons.

Timoleón Jiménez also expressed his appreciation for the help of Cuba and Norway to the peace process, as well as Venezuela and Chile, who are accompanying the talks. He also mentioned the assistance of special envoys from Germany and the United States.
