Havana, August 30 (RHC)-- Oscar León, president of the Cuban National Commission of UNESCO, the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, spoke in Havana about the positive ties between the Caribbean nation with that international organization and its results in the region.

Yesterday, Tuesday, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Cuba's UNESCO membership, Leon referred to the background of the relations, and said that they were strengthened after the triumph of the Revolution as both programs agreed on principles and objectives.

Referring to momentous moments during these seven decades of joint work, he recalled the visit of the revolutionary leader Fidel Castro to the headquarters of that international body in France.

In the field of education, Oscar León emphasized that UNESCO declared Cuba as guarantor of the Millennium Development Goals in the Caribbean area.
