Havana, March 11 (RHC)--The effectiveness of the measures Cuba has taken for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 was acknowledged Tuesday in a meeting with the top authorities of all the country's provinces and the special municipality of Isle of Youth.

The event was led by President of the Republic Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa.

According to Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal Miranda, the island continues to have no confirmed cases of the new coronavirus that has already affected 104 nations.

So far, 30 travelers have been hospitalized. After 15 tests specifically for Covid-19, the country remains free of the disease, the minister confirmed.

In an exchange via videoconference with each of the governors and the mayor of the Isle of Youth, the work carried out during the last few days on aspects of the Prevention and Control Plan was evaluated more intensively.

The certification of centers for isolation and hospitalization, the domestic production of face masks, and the availability of other needed resources such as clorine were discussed.

Manuel Marrero reiterated the importance of holding community health hearings, which, he said, are based on the need to keep the population informed. He said that not a single place should be left without timely notice of developments.

The Prime Minister instructed governors and mayors to pay special attention to the road points where people concentrate, such as service centers and cafeterias; to reduce as much as possible the transfer of sick people and to continue strengthening monitoring of health control at border points, which has been very effective,.
