Havana, December  9 (RHC)-- The National Assembly of the Popular Power (Parliament) of Cuba regretted today the position of the Belgian Eurodeputy Maria Arena on the recent provocations against the Caribbean country.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the legislative body rejected the statement issued by Arena, chairwoman of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights, influenced by lies about the group identified as San Isidro.

The note added that she calls 'Movement' is nothing more than a small group of four citizens financed by the US government, accompanied by a few others, to stage a new show as part of provocative actions against Cuba.

At the end of November, some of the group members held a protest to demand that the government of Havana release Denis Solis, who was sentenced to eight months in prison for the crime of contempt for the authorities.

Regarding the case of Solís, the document denied that the term he is serving is related in any way to his way of thinking or expressing opinions.

Article 54 of the Cuban Constitution establishes that the State recognizes, respects, and guarantees people's freedom of thought, conscience and expression, insisted the text signed by the head of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly, Yolanda Ferrer.

Solis was tried in due process for contempt of authority and sentenced to eight months of imprisonment, without appeal, she said.
