Havana, May 26 (RHC)--Miguel Díaz Canel-Bermúdez, President of the National Defense Council, has decided to deactivate the provincial and municipal defense councils.

Local media reported that the decision is based on the fact that the provincial and municipal defense councils have been activated since March of last year to direct the confrontation with COVID-19 and that the conditions exist for this process to be taken over by the temporary working groups, created in the territories at different levels.

The National Defense Council, established in the National Defense Law, is activated temporarily in exceptional situations in all or part of the national territory, in the interest of guaranteeing national defense or protecting the population and the economy in the event or imminence of military aggression, natural disasters, other types of catastrophes or other circumstances which by their nature, proportion or entity affect the internal order, the security of the country or the stability of the State.
