Havana, August 11 (RHC)-- Cuban scientists will send an open letter to the President of the United States, Joe Biden, in response to his recent statements where he refers to Cuba as a "failed state" and disqualified the capacity of the island country's science and health systems to respond to the enormous challenges imposed by the pandemic.

This was announced at a press conference by the first vice-president of BioCubaFarma, Mayda Mauri, who said plenty of information and data prove that these remarks are absurd.

She added that President Biden's statements are absolutely uninformed and are aimed at distorting the reality of what is happening in the country.

Mauri said that the purpose of the letter is to provide arguments that demonstrate Cuba's capacity and political will to face, as it has done, the challenges of the pandemic.

The executive added that in the letter they will send to President Biden, they emphasize how Cuba, from science, has been able to respond in an innovative and altruistic way to the challenges of the pandemic amid the blockade.

She highlighted the relatively low mortality rates due to Covid-19 in the country, compared to other countries, including the United States.

The letter, Mauri said, refutes Biden's statements that intervention is required for a successful vaccination process in Cuba and other assertions with which "we disagree."

"If the U.S. president is honestly concerned about the situation and the handling of the pandemic in Cuba, we, on behalf of the scientific community and the immense majority of the Cuban people, reiterate that the best way to help is to eliminate the blockade," she emphasized.
