Cuba began anti-Covid-19 vaccination for those allergic to thimerosal

Havana, Sep 21 (PL) - The Cuban Ministry of Public Health reported today that the immunization against Covid-19 of adults allergic to thiomersal or thimerosal is already underway throughout the country.

Lena Lopez, National Head of the Vaccination Program of the aforementioned portfolio, explained that the process began the day before in all provinces except Havana and the special municipality Isla de la Juventud.

Both territories will carry out this plan over the weekend, and next Monday it will be administered to health personnel.

The pediatric population allergic to thiomersal or thimerosal will be inmunized later without specifying a date, said Lopez .

He clarified that the Abdala vaccine -the first in the country and in Latin America- will not be administered to children because it is undergoing a clinical trial.

People who finish their three-dose schedule with the Soberana 02 vaccine do not have to be injected with Abdala, since after 14 days they are already immunized, emphasized López.

Lopez -who called to trust in the vaccines- asked to maintain the self-care measures that include frequent use of nasobuco, hand disinfection and physical distancing.
