Matanzas, November 1 (RHC)--The president of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo, praised the involvement of the people as a guarantee of unity in the People's Power, hence the importance of the Municipal Assemblies (AMPP), which celebrated on Sunday 45 years of existence in the country.

The People's Power in Cuba is generated from grassroots constituencies. And from where the candidates proposed and elected by the people's vote to form government structures.

"The basis of the system is the delegate, the elected official closest to the population.  The Municipal Assemblies are the highest power of the state in the locality," Lazo said in remarks in Matanzas.

That base, he argued, has to be strong, with good foundations, "we must take care, protect and keep vigorous this institution that represents Revolution," he said.

The Parliament's President insisted on the importance of teaching the history of the generations that preceded the current one and noted that the 45th anniversary of the People's Power must serve to take more significant steps for its improvement.

In remarks to Prensa Latina news agency, Esteban Lazo acknowledged the country has many difficulties, "but we cannot forget what Cuba was before the triumph of the Revolution and what Cuba is today."

And he added: "How many doctors do we have?, the scientists who have made the vaccines against Covid-19 are the fruit of the Revolution.  Capitalism is incapable of creating that. We have many more things to defend made by the Revolution because capitalism will not take care of them".

Lazo attended in the western city of Matanzas a solemn session of its Municipal Assembly. The territory served as a pilot in 1974 to develop these structures, which two years later were extended to the whole nation.

The constitution of the Municipal Assemblies is considered a transcendental step in the implementation of the Cuban Constitution of 1976, endorsed by the population and proclaimed before the world, which defined Cuba, for the first time, as a Socialist State.
