Beijing, August 9 (RHC)--The Red Cross Society of China has donated 150,000 dollars to its Cuban counterpart to support rescue and recovery efforts in the wake of the mega-fire affecting the western province of Matanzas.

This entity said on its website that it is humanitarian assistance and will support the emergency caused by the fire, which occurred in a fuel base.

On Monday, Wang Wenbin, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Prensa Latina that China would provide humanitarian aid to Cuba through its Red Cross Society.

He recalled that both countries are good friends , expressing solidarity with the people and government of the island.

Chinese President Xi Jinping conveyed solidarity to his Cuban counterpart, Miguel Díaz-Canel, expressed deep condolences to the families and those injured during the event, and ratified Beijing's willingness to assist the Caribbean nation.

The fire started on Friday during a strong storm when lightning struck one of the giant crude oil tanks and unleashed the blaze at the supertanker base in the industrial zone of Matanzas.
