Cienfuegos' Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Power Plant.

Cienfuegos, September 4 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel described as extraordinary the work of workers at the Cienfuegos Carlos Manuel de Céspedes thermoelectric power plant, among the most efficient and stable in the country.

During a tour of the facility, the President was interested in the state of the plant, which currently contributes 270 megawatts (MW) to the National Electric System, amid a complex scenario of generation deficit due to breakdowns and fuel shortages.

There, he learned that one of the main challenges of its staff at present is to carry out the planned maintenance of unit number 3, which will allow it to generate its total installed capacity, 158 MW.

At the end of his visit, the President urged the workers to continue their efforts to contribute to the solution of the current electric power situation, which is forcing programmed shutdown of this vital service.

Previously, Díaz-Canel also visited the Héroes de Playa Girón specialized outpatient care center, an institution where various specialties have been treated for the past 13 years.

Among other services, some 4,000 outpatient surgeries are performed there during the year, and an expansion of the hemodialysis area is being prepared, where 15 new artificial kidneys will be made available to patients.

In the visitors' book, he also wrote: "This is also a vision of the Socialist future of the Revolution."

The President's visit to Cienfuegos takes place in the context of the commemorations for the 65th anniversary of the popular uprising that took place here on September 5, 1957, against the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1958).
