José Ángel Portal, Cuban Minister of Public Health

Havana, Oct 25 (RHC) Cuban Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, called Monday in Havana for the unity of all nations to have resources and knowledge in favor of life.

In a statement after concluding the International Convention on Health for All, he explained that there are many strategies to be adopted and actions to be shared if we want to reach the year 2030 with the health indicators that humanity needs.

Under the title A convention to save the future, the official emphasized in his reflections that the experiences shared by delegates and guests ratify that, even though many governments and national and international organizations have placed health at the epicenter of their attention, the responses required by the various health challenges facing the planet have not yet been achieved.

These are urgent answers that cannot be found in isolation, but require the joint efforts of all, he insisted.

When assessing the meeting, he described it as fruitful and showed the support and usefulness of the multiple activities carried out in the prestigious international event, the largest that Cuban Public Health systematically carries out.

He explained that 44 high-level delegations -representing ministries and secretariats of health from all continents, 15 of them chaired by ministers- were present, as well as representatives from 64 countries around the world, United Nations agencies, international scientific organizations, and various societies.

He also commented that the multiple economic limitations that impact our sector -as a result of the world crisis caused by the epidemic of covid-19 and the intensification of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the Government of the United States- are reflected in the current deficit of medicines, medical supplies, and other resources.

These have not prevented at any time the strengthening of the scientific development of the National Health System. It is precisely on this development that the future also depends, he pointed out.

He recalled that during the Convention, the 15th "Health for All" Trade Fair and the 1st Medical Tourism and Wellness Fair were also held, both of which were attended by various international suppliers.

In the context of both events, several suppliers made a gesture of donating to the country the equipment they brought with them, which will be put at the service of different health institutions in the country (Source: Prensa Latina).
