Havana, Nov 2 (RHC) Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Josefina Vidal Ferreiro received at the Foreign Ministry headquarters Italian MEP Massimiliano Smeriglio, who is visiting the island following a request of the National Assembly of People's Power.

 

According to a note from the Foreign Ministry, the deputy minister thanked Smeriglio for the solidarity initiatives in support of Cuba, his pronouncements against the U.S. blockade, donations, and support after the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base and the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.

 

The diplomat gave the visitor an update on the country, the actions in the legal system, the effects of the economic, commercial, and financial siege of the United States, as well as other issues of regional and international interest.

 

For his part, the Italian politician and writer reiterated his support for the Cuban people, condemned the blockade, and said he would continue his work and initiatives in the European Parliament in favor of Cuba.

Smeriglio is a great friend of Cuba, a member of the Democratic Party of Italy and the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament.

 

During his stay on the Island, he also gave a Master Conference at the Higher Institute of International Relations and held meetings at the National Assembly of People's Power and the national leadership of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution.

 

The broad program of the MEP also included exchanges at the Department of International Relations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, the Provincial Government of Havana, and visits to centers of historical interest, the Finlay Institute of Vaccines, the 'Solidarity with Panama' school, and places affected by Hurricane Ian.
