Panama calls U.S. blockade against Cuba anachronic

Panama City, Nov 4 (RHC) The blockade maintained by the United States against Cuba is anachronic and increasingly receiving a universal rejection, assured the political analysis magazine El Periodico de Panama.

In its most recent editorial about the victory of the island in the United Nations General Assembly yesterday, in which 185 states supported a resolution condemning the blockade, the publication pointed out that the hostile policy tried to surrender Jose Marti’s and Fidel Castro’s sons, but achieved the solidarity of the world with Cuba.

That anachronistic mechanism of pressuring and extorting an entire people to desist from their determination to build a society of equals in the exercise of their self-determination has increasingly met with the global rejection of the civilized world, the newspaper said in its digital version.

As Omar Torrijos said almost 50 years ago that ‘every hour of isolation of Cuba was 60 minutes of shame for Latin America’, added El Periódico de Panamá.

The day before, Cuba presented for the 30th time since 1992 before the UN the draft resolution “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States”.

This time, 185 countries voted in favor of the resolution presented by the Caribbean nation, while two (the United States and Israel) voted against it, and another two (Ukraine and Brazil) abstained.

Official figures show that, for 60 years, the damages caused by the blockade imposed on the Antillean country are estimated at more than one trillion 326 billion 432 million dollars. (Prensa Latina)
