Cuba at the end of the year, not a single oversight confronting COVID-19

Havana, December 7 (RHC)-- This Tuesday, from the Palace of the Revolution, in the meeting usually held by the country's leadership, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz checked the situation of COVID-19 and dengue fever in the country, as well as the progress of recovery in the territories affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian.

Close to the end of the year celebrations, as has happened so far, Cuba cannot afford even a single mistake in the face of Covid-19, warned the also member of Political Bureau during the day headed by the member of the Political Bureau and vice president of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa.

"The stability we have been enjoying and the tranquility derived from the control of the pandemic, thanks to the contribution of scientists, the health system, and all the people, we have to maintain them," said the Head of Government, in the meeting that linked all the provinces by videoconference and the special municipality Isla de la Juventud.

For 15 consecutive weeks, informed Dr. Tania Margarita Cruz Hernández, First Deputy Minister of Public Health, no deaths have been reported, for an accumulated lethality rate until the end of week 48, of 0.77 %. No active events have been reported either.

Regarding the dengue situation, she pointed out that the incidence rate of suspected cases has decreased by 17.2 % concerning the previous week; at the same time, compliance with the focal cycle is being prioritized and surveillance in workplaces is being reinforced.

During the working session, Marrero Cruz also followed up on the recovery of the territories affected by the passage of Hurricane Ian, mainly Pinar del Río, the province that concentrates the bulk of the work in the rehabilitation of buildings.

After the cleaning process carried out in the last weeks, 90,186 houses have been affected and 11,837 of them have been recovered, according to the governor of Vueltabajo, Rubén Ramos Moreno.

He also added that progress continues to be made in the local production of materials, as well as in the revival of agriculture, with emphasis on tobacco production and the planting of various crops.

Likewise, the authorities of Matanzas, Artemisa, and Mayabeque also detailed how the recovery actions are progressing in their territories, after being hit by Ian last September.
