Havana, Dec 21 (RHC) Homero Acosta Alvarez, secretary of the National Assembly of People's Power and the Council of State, received on Wednesday Fabien Roussel, national secretary of the French Communist Party and member of the French Parliament.

In a fraternal exchange held in the Baragua hall of the National Capitol, Acosta Alvarez stressed the value of his visit as a symbol of the common will to strengthen relations between France and Cuba, including the links between both legislative bodies, in complex times for our country.

In turn, he conveyed to the distinguished visitor and his delegation the cordial greetings of the head of the Cuban Parliament, Esteban Lazo Hernández, and delved into different aspects of the current national situation, characterized by the confrontation of the COVID˗19 pandemic despite the consequences of the tightening of the blockade, and the world economic crisis.

He emphasized the intense legislative activity deployed by the current Legislature of the National Assembly, after the proclamation of the Constitution of the Republic, with the approval of more than 30 laws and more than 80 decree-laws; something unprecedented in the country.

He also highlighted other processes developed during this stage such as control and oversight actions, accountability, and the popular referendum on the Family Code, among others.

Regarding the relations between both parliaments, Homero Acosta recalled his visit to the French nation in June 2022, where he was received by Christian Cambon, head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces of the French Senate, and by François-Michel Lambert, as former president of the Parliamentary Friendship Group in the National Assembly.

In this sense, he ratified the interest in strengthening the ties between the two legislative bodies, increasing the exchange of delegations, and maintaining close collaboration in all spheres.

Fabien Roussel, National Secretary of the French Communist Party

You can count on our full support in the fight against the blockade.

"We must move forward, in France and Europe, to a new chapter in the struggle against the U.S. blockade of Cuba. You can count on our full support", expressed Fabien Roussel at the meeting.

On this issue, he called for strengthening solidarity with the Greater of the Antilles. "We cannot continue to do the same as we did 15 years ago. Today, when the situation is more serious than ever, we will propose to deploy a great campaign of solidarity, together with the parties of the European left, with the communists, and with the workers, for the lifting of this inhuman and unjust policy, which has been attacking the human rights of the Cuban people for more than 60 years. We will also call for excluding Cuba from the list of State sponsors of terrorism", underlined the National Secretary of the French Communist Party.

On the other hand, he also pointed out the historic nature of his visit, taking into account the transcendence of the recent meeting held with the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the Republic of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez; given a complex international scenario and the current Cuban situation. Furthermore, this is the opportunity to bring back to France the truth of our country, which is facing an intensified blockade amid a pandemic and the world economic crisis.
