Cuba assures to pursue zero-tolerance policy on drug trafficking

Havana, Jun 26 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Monday assured to pursue a zero-tolerance policy on drug trafficking, by reminding today's International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The president tweeted that Cuba is affected by the impact of that global scourge although with much lower records, for it maintains a permanent confrontation.

A press release from Granma journal, the official organ of Cuba’s Communist Party pointed out that the political will of the Cuban State and its people to provide a solution to such a problem is shown by the 24/7 defense of domestic borders in the depths of the national territory. In addition to the assistance of the broad international, bilateral, and multilateral collaboration to counteract it.

Due to its geographical position, Cuba is located between the United States, the world’s main consumer, and the Central American and Caribbean region, where several of the main producers and drug dealers are located, which requires permanent vigilance.

The country is a signatory to the main multilateral legal instruments approved by the United Nations, including several agreements such as eleven on extradition, 34 on legal assistance, 42 on drugs trafficking, and 31 on the transfer of prisoners to other countries. (Source: Prensa Latina)
