Minsk, November 10 (RHC) -- Economic relations between Belarus and Cuba should reach the level of political ones, Belarusian President Aleksander Lukashenko said Friday when he received Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero.

At the beginning of the meeting the first president referred that he was glad to see an envoy from the island of freedom. "I think it is not necessary to say anything about Belarusian-Cuban relations, to characterize them. We always maintained warm and friendly relations. You should know that we will follow these approaches," Lukashenko stressed.

The president noted that in the diplomatic and political, and even ideological sphere both countries have unique approaches and there is no dissent.

"Preparing for this meeting and studying the whole range of trade and economic relations, I found out that we need to seriously bring economic and trade issues closer to political ones, Lukashenko pointed out.

He also proposed to the Cuban side to use the best competences of the two countries to deepen trade and economic relations and raise them to the level of political and humanitarian relations.

In turn, Marrero thanked the Belarusian head of state for the opportunity to meet and the warm welcome organized in Minsk, and conveyed greetings from the Cuban authorities and personally from the President, Miguel Diaz-Canel, who fondly remembers his visit to Minsk in 2019.

"I listened to him very carefully and I completely agree. He has made the most accurate analysis of bilateral trade and economic relations between our countries. I share his opinion. We also plan to propose to change this situation," the Cuban head of government specified.

Marrero arrived in Belarus on an official visit on November 9. He will hold talks with Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, the presidents of both Chambers of the Belarusian Parliament and members of the National Assembly's working group for cooperation with the Cuban Parliament.

During his visit to Belarus, Marrero will familiarize himself with its industrial potential and the opportunities for processing meat and dairy raw materials. (Source:PL)
