Since December 3, 1933, every new anniversary of the birth of Carlos J. Finlay (1833-1915) and the Day of Latin American Medicine is celebrated annually.

For Cuba, the date becomes a recount in health matters for the benefit of the population and peoples of other lands, and a departure to assume new commitments and challenges in the difficult task of maintaining high public health indicators, even in the midst of the limitations imposed by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.
