The Family Doctor and Nurse Program was created 39 years ago by the historic leader Fidel Castro.

Havana, Jan 4 (RHC) Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, congratulated this Wednesday the members of the Family Doctor and Nurse Program, an initiative created by the historic leader, Fidel Castro, 39 years ago.

Through his Twitter account, the head of state sent a big hug "to the doctors and nurses who are in the neighborhoods, and always have their offices open to attend to the neighbors."

The president said the initiative was one of the most humane and decisive programs promoted by Fidel Castro.

With direct attention to families on each block, nurses and specialists in Comprehensive General Medicine have been a fundamental factor in vaccination campaigns and the promotion of adequate health habits in the communities.

This has allowed the country to reach high levels in practically all health indicators, which places it at the level of the most highly developed nations, with advances recognized by the World Health Organization and other entities. (Source: ACN)
