Havana, February 1 (RHC) -- The Cuban Communist Party Committee in Santiago de Cuba province on Thursday elected Beatriz Johnson Urrutia, who held the post of governor, as the first secretary of the political organization in that territory.

The Committee, at the request of the Political Bureau, agreed to release José Ramón Monteagudo from that position, during a plenary session presided over by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Miguel Díaz-Canel, and the secretary of Organization, Roberto Morales.

Johnson, 54 years old, is a chemical engineer and developed her working and government life in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

At the José Mercerón Allen cement factory, she held various positions such as department head, technical director, maintenance, investment and development. Subsequently, she was general manager of Empresa Mixta Cemento Santiago de Cuba S.A., belonging to the Ministry of Construction.

In government activities, she served as vice-president and president of the Provincial Assembly of People's Power in Santiago de Cuba, until she became governor of that territory.
