Havana, May 6 (RHC)-- Mocking the pressure of making his international debut, young Jorge Cuellar won for the second time and Cuba maintained its undefeated record in 12 appearances at the Tashkent 2023 World Boxing Championship.

The 71-kilogram espirituano was a nightmare for South African Simnikiwe Bongco to deserve a 5-0 vote that opened the doors to Tuesday's round, when he will face Ecuador's Jose Rodriguez.

A hammering jab cleared the way for his long punches, thrown from the distance imposed based on technique and good movements that neutralized the momentum of an opponent of smaller stature who always tried to approach him.

"I felt much better, because I am getting more confident in my work and that is positive," he said on his way to the dressing room assigned to his squad in the impressive Humo Arena of the Uzbek capital.

"I managed to stay focused on what the coaches told me to do what I needed to do against an opponent shorter than me, basically to shoot a lot of straight shots," added Cuellar, who highlighted the atmosphere that accompanies his team.

"The mood is high, with the more experienced players supporting those of us who are making our debut in an event like this," he commented, also satisfied with the many messages received from the island and the permanent support of his family.
