Havana, August 24 (ACN)-- Cuban kayakers Robert Benítez, Yan Carlos Samé, Daylén Rodríguez and Yurieni Guerra will make their debut today in the second day of the World Canoeing Championship in Duisburg, a competition that will take place until next Sunday.

According to the website of the International Federation, the duos of Benítez-Samé and Rodríguez-Guerra will be in action in the Wedau Race Channel, located south of that German city, both in search of advancing to the semifinals of the 500-meter tandem kayak (K-2).

This Wednesday, canoeists Yarisleidis Cirilo, Yinnoly Francheska, José Ramón Pelier and Javier Requeiro advanced to the semifinals of their respective modalities and distances.

The organizers emphasize that the first six boats of each preliminary heat and the three best seventh place finishers will get the places for the semis.

Yarisleidis won the tickets in the one-seater (C-1) at 200 meters, and the two-seater (C-2) at 500 meters, in the latter together with the 17-year-old Yinnoly Francheska, a duo that is making its international debut.

Also in this Friday's semifinals will be canoeists José Ramón Pelier, in the 1,000-meter C-1, and Javier Requeiro, in the 500-meter C-1.

Pelier will also be present in the C-1 at 5,000 meters, in a direct final scheduled for the 27th, at the closing of the World Championship.

The competition awards the first places in this sport for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
