Havana, October 13 (PL) - Cuba defeated France in two sets (11-1 and 7-4) on Friday in the beginning of the super round and remained as the only undefeated team in the first Baseball5 Youth World Cup, which is being held in Ankara, Turkey.

Both teams led their elimination groups by winning all the games, which raised expectations for the clash between them, but the Cubans dominated the first set by a knockout and defined the score in the second.

With the victory over the European team, Cuba secured a place among the four best teams of the championship and if it beats Taipei of China in the afternoon, it will get a place for the gold match on Sunday.

In the second round of the tournament, the qualified teams have carried over the results of their first round matches and will only face the three teams in the other bracket.

In other matches of the day, Mexico defeated China (2-0) and lost to Turkey by the same score, while China beat Taipei, also in two sets.

With only the match between France and Turkey left to conclude the current competitive day, the Cubans (3-0) lead followed by the French and Turks (2-1), Mexicans (2-2), Chinese (1-3) and Taiwanese (0-3).

This Saturday the super round ends with the games between Cuba-Mexico, France-China and Turkey-Taipei of China.

The top two finishers will play for the title on Sunday and the third and fourth place finishers will compete for the bronze medal.
