Sancti Spíritus, Feb 4 (RHC) The assemblies for debating the draft Family Code continue today in the central Cuban province of Sancti Spíritus as part of a process that will last until the end of April.

Deivy Aquino, from the neighborhood of Agramonte, in the city of Yayabo, told Prensa Latina that this way, the popular consultation of the legal document is advancing in most municipalities, which reflects inclusion, equality, non-discrimination and family diversity.

In the analysis, voters supported the content of justice, identity, insertion of the advanced project of family relations and rights and duties.

During a meeting, Alexis Lorente, Member of the Council of State and president of the Assembly of People's Power of the village of Espiritu, emphasized that once again we are in the presence of socialist democracy.

The meetings began in the People's Councils of the municipalities of Yaguajay, Cabaiguán and Trinidad, where the participation of the voters was outstanding, as well as the debate on the main changes of the document for the good of the community.

At each meeting, jurists and law students clarified the concerns or doubts of those present regarding the project. The Constitution of the Republic, proclaimed on April 10, 2019, established that the new Family Code would be the result of a broad popular consultation given the high importance that the State gives to families.

The current Code has been in force since 1975, and although it was a milestone in the promotion of ethical and moral values, and broke with traditional, classist and patriarchal canons, it is no longer consistent with the diversity and socio-family dynamics of these times. (Source: PL)
