Havana, August 29 (RHC) -- Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, called on Tuesday to work quickly to recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia.

"A good job has been done based on all the indications that were given and the experiences we have in the provinces, including recent ones, which once again demonstrates the capacity of our Civil Defense system," said the President during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers, according to the website of the Presidency.

"We have to work, above all, so that there will not be the slightest affectation to the beginning of the school year next week," said Díaz-Canel, who insisted that this be done as quickly as possible in the damages to the electric service, which are the greatest among those caused by the meteorological phenomenon.

At the time of this meeting, the total impact of the heavy rains was not yet counted.

To evaluate the damages, the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, indicated that several ministers will go to the affected territories with their respective work teams, to make an assessment of the damages caused after the passage of Idalia, and the support needs.

Now it is necessary to work urgently on the electric service, communications, agriculture, and to prepare conditions with security, because remember that we will still have one or two more days of rainfall influence, said Díaz Canel.
