Gaza City, January 16 (RHC)-- Israel has carried out a series of airstrikes on the besieged Gaza Strip, injuring at least five people. According to Palestinian medical sources, four children and a woman were wounded during the airstrikes on Thursday.

In a previous raid on January 13, Israeli warplanes carried out three separate airstrikes on the northern, central and southern areas of Gaza.

A three-year-old boy was injured in the attack on the central area and a training center for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) was damaged in the attack on the southern area.

The Israeli military often targets Palestinians along the border with the Gaza Strip, which remains literally cut off from the outside world by a crippling Israeli blockade. The siege has turned the densely-populated coastal Palestinian sliver, home to some 1.7 million people, into the largest open-air prison in the world.
