Damages caused by tropical storm Laura in Havana

Havana, September 1 (RHC)-- The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Planning, Alejandro Gil Fernández, reported on the impacts of Tropical Storm Laura that hit the country between August 23 and 25, causing damage mainly to agriculture, electricity, communications, and housing.

His statements were aired by the National TV news Monday evening.

"With respect to the effects on housing, the housing fund, with the closing of August 30, preliminary reports show 3839 homes damaged, of which 115 are total collapses, 231 are partial collapses, 320 are total roofs, and 3095, the majority, are partial damage to roofs," said Gil Fernandez.

The Deputy Prime Minister added that recovery efforts are in full swing, and that 469 houses had already been restored, among them 17 partial collapses.
