Havana, September 23 (RHC)--Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, warned Tuesday about the epidemiological situation in the central province of Ciego de Ávila, the one with the highest incidence of Covid-19 cases and deaths in the country in the last 15 days.

In the daily meeting of the Temporary Working Group of the Government on the epidemic, he reiterated his concern about the lethality in that territory, which for five consecutive days has reported deaths, something that, he said, had not happened in Cuba for a long time.

The governor of Ciego de Avila, Tomas Alexis Martín, said that the outbreaks of Covid-19 affect 10 municipalities of the province, where 180 positive cases of this disease are being treated.

During the meeting, the recent outbreak at a construction workers camp in the Municipality of Cardenas in Matanzas province was analyzed. It has reported so far some 60 positive cases. Local authorities stated that underway contact tracing efforts have resulted in identifying some 2,000 people who will be tested for the disease.

An assessment was also conducted on the epidemiological situation and the fulfillment of sanitary measures in Artemisa, Sancti Spíritus, Holguín, and Havana provinces. The latter is the most complex due to the level of dispersion of the infections.
