Havana, May 18 (RHC) –- The total number of mobile lines in Cuba reached the milestone of three million in April, according to data from state-owned telecommunications operator Etecsa.

The rise from the 2.4 million lines reported at the start of the year was primarily due to the ‘Si activas ganas 30’ promotion whereby new users were given USD 30 in credit for activating a line for the same amount. The promotion led to 300,000 new mobile users in just five days, said Etecsa.

The Cuban government has plans to activate a total of 800,000 new lines this year and in November introduced new legislation allowing individual users to register up to three mobile lines.
