Havana, October 22 (RHC)-- Representatives of Cuba and Algeria made a postal cancellation for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

The cancellation was in the hands of Gerardo Peñalver Portal, first deputy minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba; Abdelkrim Benchiach, ambassador of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria; Wilfredo González Vidal, first deputy minister of Communications; and Pablo Julio Pla Feria, director of the Correos de Cuba business group.

In her opening remarks, Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo stressed that our country and Algeria have a common history of anti-imperialist and anti-colonialist struggle, and are founders of the Non-Aligned Movement.

On behalf of the Cuban people and government, she thanked Algeria for its systematic stance against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years.

Rodríguez Camejo referred to the potential for cooperation in the biopharmaceutical spheres, production of medicines and vaccines, the energy area, and the sports sector.

For his part, the Algerian diplomat confirmed that there are capacities to be exploited, as the countries have developed spheres and their economic operators know and appreciate each other.

"Regular dialogues and consultations, and economic cooperation with the prospect of expansion characterize the bilateral relations of my country and Cuba," Abdelkrim Benchiach pointed out.

Present for Cuba were Ángel Arzuaga Reyes, deputy head of the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba; Yolanda Ferrer Gómez, president of the International Relations Commission of the National Assembly of People's Power; and Hero of the Republic Fernando González Llort, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples.

Part of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Caribbean nation and personnel of the Algerian embassy also participated in the ceremony.
