Cuban First Vice President Evaluates Social and Economic Development in Camaguey

Havana, January 8 (RHC) -– Cuban First Vice President Miguel Diaz-Canel evaluated the social and economic development, challenges and potentials in the eastern province of Camaguey. During a visit to the local university, Diaz-Canel stressed the need to adapt priorities to the new scenario of the country and to share experiences with other provinces.

The top Cuban official also visited the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Center, where he was interested in learning about a therapeutic vaccine against prostate cancer, currently under clinical studies. He called on workers to keep diversifying products and markets to turn the center into a high-tech company and consolidate Cuban biotechnology.

Diaz-Canel also visited an academy of the arts, specialized in classical ballet and visual arts for children and adolescents, and he toured several works aimed at expanding recreational activities for area residents.

As part of his visit to the eastern province, the first vice president shared views with media workers and local leaders on the role of the media in today's Cuban society.
