Havana, Jun 29 (RHC) - The Cuban women's softball team defeated Mexico 1-0 today and finished undefeated in Group B of the XI Pan American Championship being held in Monteria, Colombia.

After previously defeating the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Dominican Republic, and Brazil, the Antillean women defeated opponents who were also undefeated, and advance to the Super Round with their record unblemished.

At the José Gabriel Amín Manzur stadium, Yilián Tornés shone once again from the pitching circle as she earned her third victory of the tournament. The stellar pitcher went the entire route and struck out nine batters, for a total of 37 in 21 innings pitched.

The decisive run came in the fourth inning thanks to a solo home run by the bullpen's Leannelys Zayas, who connected with force against a delivery from the defeated Citaly Gutiérrez.

This tournament awards five tickets to one of the phases of the World Cup and six places for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games.
