Havana, August 6 (RHC)-- The ship Augusto César Sandino arrived in Cuba Friday with a cargo of solidarity aid from Nicaragua, in a gesture that unites both nations.

At the container terminal of the Mariel Special Development Zone, 45 kilometers west of the capital, Cuban Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez, together with the Central American country's ambassador in Havana, Luis Cabrera, welcomed the ship that brought 30 containers of food.

We have come with a mission of the Government of Nicaragua, and we accomplished it, said the captain of the ship William Antonio Paz, and affirmed that the crew is willing to carry out all the tasks that are posed to them to support the people of Cuba.

The Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment of the Caribbean nation thanked the Nicaraguans on behalf of her country and emphasized that the shipment ratifies the friendship that unites both countries.

Cuba and Nicaragua have common causes, she said, and assured that no matter how difficult the circumstances may be, they will know how to stand up and continue with solidarity as a banner.

Pérez added that the cargo received will be immediately distributed to the population.

Cuba is going through a difficult period due to the effects caused by the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, the scourge of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the resulting economic contractions.

In this context, the Caribbean nation received aid from other countries in the region such as Mexico, Bolivia, Venezuela, and Jamaica and shipments from Russia and China, mainly food, medicines, supplies, and medical equipment.
