Havana, July 13 (RHC)-- Doctor María Eugenia Toledo Romaní, from the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), affirmed that after the application of the vaccine against COVID-19 developed by Cuban scientists to children, no child has died of the disease on the island.

Soberana's main researcher pointed out that after a rigorous study it could be determined that the effectiveness of the vaccine in the prevention of the symptomatic disease COVID-19 in children from two to five years old, during the Omicron wave in Cuba, was 90.1 %.

Meanwhile, the effectiveness of vaccination with Soberana in the prevention of severe COVID-19 disease in children aged two to 18 years was 95.8%.

Prior to the pediatric vaccination, 18 children between two and 18 years of age lost their lives as a consequence of this terrible disease.

The results of the study were presented on Tuesday in the presence of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.
