The president of the Latin Music Institute Daniel Martín has resorted to social media to offer details of a new project dedicated to Cuban prima ballerina asssoluta, Alicia Alonso on her 100th birthday anniversary, to be celebrated in December this year.

Martín said the Latin Music Institute and Cuba’s Record and Musical Editions Company (Egrem) are working on a new album in homage to the legendary dancer and choreographer, named ‘Star of the Century’ by the Latin Music Institute in recognition of her indelible imprint in the world of international classical ballet.

The president of the Mexico City-based Latin Music Institute explained that the album compiles a selection of the songs dedicated to Alicia Alonso over many years. In this sense, Daniel Martín highlighted the work of two great Cuban musicians, maestros Chucho Valdés and Frank Fernández, who contributed their talent to this project.

Martín pointed to Frank Fernández’ contribution to one specific piece entitled 'Maravillosa Mujer', which will be accompanied with a music video.

The president of the Latin Music Institute also shared some promotional posters of the album on social media, which portray Alicia as a cartoon character. He suggested the creation of a new cartoon series dedicated to the legendary Cuban artist.
