Havana, July 11 (RHC)-- Cubans Dariel Carrión (epee fencer) and Leidis Mari Veranes (sabre fencer) will attend the World Fencing Championships in Egypt from July 15 to 23.

The event will be held at the Cairo Stadium Indoor Halls Complex and will be attended by around half a thousand fencers from a hundred countries.

For Carrión and Veranes, who have already qualified for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023, it will be a good opportunity to face some of the best fencers in the world.

In the case of Carrión, she is currently ranked 85th in the world, and Veranes is ranked 111th.

The sablist will join the fencer and coach Jaine Hernandez in Cairo, coming from Poland, where she was in a training base.

In the men's epee event, the island's athlete will have action in one of the most popular weapons, with 201 swordsmen; while in the sabre, the Cuban is included in the group of 138 registered, according to the official site of the International Fencing Federation (FIE).

Before the start of this world event, the FIE has worked together with the International Anti-Doping Agency to update fencers, coaches and officials about the scourge that harms the sports world, in addition to raising awareness about the importance of clean sport.
