Caracas, Jun 27 (RHC) Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro enacted on Monday the Organic Law of Communal Councils, which grants more power to the structures of the People's Power.

During his program with Maduro +, broadcast at 7:00 p.m. local time, the head of state spoke with invited deputies who participated in the public consultation process of the new tool and toured the country, as well as with two young leaders of communal councils in the city of Caracas.

The President stated that the law was expanded, perfected, improved, debated, reviewed, and approved by the National Assembly (Parliament) as it is only done in the Revolution.

He commented that all this arose from a decision adopted as part of the "Coup de Timon", instructed by Commander Hugo Chávez (1954-2013), to go towards the expansion of rights with the improvement of the Law of the Communal Councils.

As President, Head of State, and Government, I am ready to sign and execute the new Communal Councils Law, which will result in more Popular Power, more direct democracy, and more freedom, he emphasized.

The ruler recalled when the opposition right-wing took over the Parliament in 2015 and asked what they did in those five years, if not carry out coups d'état, and not pass a single important law that would do good to the country during that period.

Damage was what they did, a lot of damage, when they have power, they dedicate themselves to harm the nation, the people, he pointed out.

Last week, in the second discussion, the National Assembly approved by a qualified majority the Organic Law of the Communal Councils.

The President of the Legislative Power, Jorge Rodríguez, congratulated the deputies who were in charge of the consultation process to promote the "very important reform" and especially congratulated the new neighbors of the communes that were renewed.

Rodriguez highlighted that they now have a fundamental instrument in this Law, which was renewed and adapted to the new times of the Bolivarian Revolution.

Deputy Blanca Eekhout, president of the Permanent Commission of the Communes, considered that the reform of the Organic Law of the Communal Councils is the achievement of the "participative and protagonist democracy of the people".

The project to reform of the Organic Law of the Communal Councils was approved in the first discussion by a qualified majority during the ordinary session of November 27, 2022, and consists of 58 articles (Source: Prensa Latina).
