Paris, December 3 (RHC)--The national secretary of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, urged U.S. President-elect Joe Biden on Wednesday to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade against Cuba and to take the road to peace.

In a statement to Prensa Latina, the deputy for the North's department expressed his hope that the former vice president would commit himself to a different position from that of his predecessor in the White House, Donald Trump, who tightened the siege imposed on the Caribbean island six decades ago.

We hope that Biden marches towards a real peace with Cuba because in these times of the Covid-19, we need to stop the tensions and the blockades, said the PCF top leader, a harsh critic of Washington's aggressiveness against the largest Caribbean island and other countries.

According to Roussel, the world demands a return to peace to prioritize the fight against the pandemic, without restrictions that prevent economies from focusing on patient care, health systems, and access to vaccines.

We do not need blockades or wars, but we need to work together, which is our call to Biden.
