Managua, August 16 (RHC)-- Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega highlighted the strength of the Cuban people in the face of the large-scale fire at the supertanker base in Matanzas province that left several families in mourning.

During a ceremony held  Monday for the 42nd anniversary of the founding of the Nicaraguan Army Naval Force, the head of state reiterated his country's love and solidarity for the Caribbean nation.

"As always, all our love and solidarity with the people of Cuba in the face of this tragedy that they faced and managed to control," Ortega said before high-ranking army officers, members of the Navy, and part of the diplomatic corps accredited in the Central American nation.

He also stressed that the fire was controlled by "the strength, conscience, and spirit of the heroic people of José Martí, Fidel Castro, Raúl Castro, and Miguel Díaz-Canel."
